Today Samsung launched it latest iteration in the Note series, the Galaxy Note 7. The Note 7 builds on many of the design queues and technology introduced by the Galaxy S7 series earlier this year.
The Note 7 features curved Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on both the front and rear, creating a more symmetrical design. The dual curved edge design also allows for a smaller in-hand feel, reducing the footprint of the Note 7 despite its 5’7″ display. It will be available in Black Onyx, Silver Titanium , and Blue Coral (a unique light blue and gold combination) in North America, whereas the Gold will only be available internationally.
It would not be the Note line be without the S-Pen. The new S-Pen the Note 7 is equipped with features a finer tip and high pressure sensitivity.
Like the S7 series before it, the all new Galaxy Note 7 features IP68 rated water resistance; the S-Pen has also been redesigned with this in mind.
The built in memory has now been doubled to 64GB from the standard 32GB of the Note 5. The Samsung Exynos 8890 64Bit Octa-Core chipset will run the Note 7 along with 4GB of RAM. The Note 7 also makes the change to the newer and reversible USB Type-C standard. The built in battery has been upgraded to 3500mAh up from 3000mAh on the Note 5.
The Note 7 will also feature the same 12MP f1.7 aperture OIS equipped camera from the S7 series. Few smartphone compare to the low-light image performance of these optics.
Samsung also touts the new iris scanning unlock feature. This will tie-in with the Samsung suite of software’s many security pre-existing features.
As with every iteration of their devices, Samsung also announced some refinements to UI of the Note 7. The new Samsung Notes app will presumably replace the S-Note app.
What about Canadian availability you say? According to MobileSyrup:
the Note 7 will be coming to “major carriers, retailers and the Samsung Experience Stores” on August 19th in Blue Coral, Silver Titanium and Black Onyx.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will retail for $1049.99 CAD outright and $549.99 CAD on a 2 year term, not the easiest on our wallet.
